Me Before You

Me Before You is just like any other romantic movies out there. A serious and dying guy meets a cheerful girl who later changed his life. It's like The Fault in our Stars plus 10 years and oh, the guy is filthy rich.

Louisa "Lou" Clark (Emilia Clarke) who is desperate for a job finds herself working as a caretaker for a quadriplegic, dashing yet grouchy Will Traynor (Sam Claflin). Soon she finds out that the reason for her being hired is to cheer him up as he is suicidal.

It is enjoyable at first, as the movie introduces Lou, a dorky and awkward girl with a bold and near-ridiculous fashion sense which makes it hard for the audience not to fall in love with her. However, the rest of the movie is easily predictable as Will who at first was verbally abusive slowly falling for her quirkiness.

The movie seems manipulative, knowing how to melt the hearts of the audience and plays with their emotions;

from the golden smile of Sam Claflin...

and the cheesy one-liners written for Sam like this one...

or this one...

...and some Ed Sheeran's songs to lighten up the romantic mood.

This causes a several ooh and ahh among the female audiences (at least that's what I heard in my movie hall) which makes me think if the quality of this movie depends heavily on the lead male character.

Rating: 6/10

Watch out for: Matthew Lewis aka Neville Longbottom (yup that's him) as Lou's boyfriend

Watch this if you like: The Fault in Our Stars
