Pitch Perfect 2

"Sequels are never a good thing and Pitch Perfect 2 is not an exception"

Ever since the announcement of the production of a sequel in 2013, I prayed and hoped that it will never try so hard to compete with the first movie (which might just be the best movie in 2012) but God decided not to answer my prayer and there goes Pitch Perfect 2.

It started out fine- the Barden Bellas singing "Wrecking Ball" at the Lincoln Center when suddenly Fat Amy had a major wardrobe malfunction and accidentally flashed her "Little Amy" to Michelle and Barrack Obama. I must give credit though for the clever usage of the archived video of Obama's disgusted look which is hilarious. But then again, it reminds me of the opening scene of Pitch Perfect where Aubrey (Anna Camp) puked all over the audience which eventually diminish the group's reputation.

As the movie goes on, I realised that they've been recycling the same plot all over again:

1. The fall of the Barden Bellas

2. New addition of the group

Unlike Beca (Anna Kendrick) which was introduced to us with more sophisticated storyline, Emily's character (played by Hailee Steinfeld) didn't manage to catch my attention as I did with Beca. Emily is bland and as I said, a new version of Beca with less sass and confidence.

3. Road to Redemption

After the tragic incident, what better way to polish their names than to win an international a cappella competition "that no American has ever won before" which includes the insanely good European a cappella group DSM (Das Sound Machine)

4. Victory (duhh..!)

And of course they will win no matter how hard the competition is...

Pitch Perfect 2 pretty much slaps us with unfunny, racist and tiring jokes which will cause you to force-laugh

However, it has its fair share of memorable scenes and witty lines that will crack you up throughout the movie. More scenes on our favorite Fat Amy were shown especially the love sparks with Bumper (Adam DeVine) that is somehow cute and adorable.

The playlist gets better this time with mainstream songs like Bootylicious, Torn, Run The World, Before He Cheats and We Are Never Getting Back Together.

Sadly, some old characters like Stacie (Alexis Knapp) and Lilly (Hana Mae Lee) weren't given much lines and pretty much drowned in the entire movie.

Watch this if you like: Pitch Perfect, obviously.

Watch out for: Massive amount of cameos; from Barrack Obama to Snoop Dogg to Pentatonix.

Verdict: This sequel will be a great throwback of the first movie and it's nice to see some character development and seeing them graduating, we can probably bet that Pitch Perfect 3 will be different from the first two.
